The Jammu and Kashmir cabinet meeting, set for Monday, will focus on finalizing budget proposals to be presented in the Legislative Assembly on February 6 by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also serves as the union territory finance minister. The meeting, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, will take place at his official residence on Wazarat Road at 3 p.m., emphasizing welfare initiatives and key commitments of the ruling National Conference for the financial year 2026-27. The annual budget, expected to be around Rs 1.20 lakh crore, will include various welfare measures and initiatives from the NC manifesto.

The Cabinet meeting coincides with the opening day of the Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, with a positive announcement anticipated regarding Daily Rated Workers (DRWs). Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s address marked the start of the Budget Session, followed by obituary references, and is scheduled to conclude around 12.30 p.m. The Cabinet’s primary focus will be on finalizing budget-related proposals, with limited departmental agenda items, subject to the approval of the Lieutenant Governor.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, also responsible for the Finance portfolio, will present the budget after responding to the debate on the L-G’s address on February 5. The 27-day-long budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will span three months until April 4.
