Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently unveiled 368 new residential units in Sempora, Pulwama district. These units, costing over Rs 90 crore, were built for employees involved in the annual Darbar Move. The modern 2BHK and 3BHK accommodations come with eco-friendly features like solar water-heating systems and effluent treatment facilities.
The housing project aims to address the housing shortage for government employees in the Kashmir Valley and enhance their welfare. Employees associated with the Darbar Move are set to benefit greatly from these new facilities, easing their accommodation challenges. The complex is expected to lessen the reliance on private housing, elevating living standards and security for employees and their families.
Chief Minister Abdullah emphasized the government’s commitment to providing suitable family housing for employees throughout Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted that enhancing employee welfare is a key priority, with plans to expand residential infrastructure across the Union Territory. The completion of this housing complex is anticipated to significantly improve housing availability for government staff and alleviate housing issues in the area.
The project’s importance is underscored by the revival of the annual Darbar Move, which necessitated additional residential facilities for government workers in Srinagar. The practice of shifting government offices between Srinagar and Jammu, discontinued in 2021, was reinstated by the Omar Abdullah-led government. Since May 4, 2026, top government offices have relocated to Srinagar for the next six months.
Officials including Additional Chief Secretary Shaleen Kabra and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Dr. Basharat Qayoom were present at the inauguration ceremony, highlighting the significance of this initiative for employee welfare.
