Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi to talk about crucial matters concerning the region. They discussed the early restoration of statehood, the current economic situation, and the pace of development. Abdullah emphasized the importance of ongoing support from the Indian government to boost economic growth, improve connectivity, create jobs, enhance infrastructure, and elevate public welfare in Jammu & Kashmir.
Omar Abdullah also commended Prime Minister Modi for completing 12 years in office. Recently, Abdullah participated in the INDIA bloc meeting in New Delhi, representing the regional National Conference (NC) as one of the 35 members of the bloc. Following a meeting led by Abdullah, it was decided that the NC legislature party would hold a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi during Parliament’s Monsoon Session to demand the restoration of statehood and other constitutional rights for Jammu and Kashmir.
The Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, announced that its MLAs would join the Jantar Mantar protest. Additionally, estranged NC MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi expressed support for the protest but stressed the focus should be on reinstating Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Ruhullah’s public statements about the NC’s alleged failure to fulfill electoral promises led to his exclusion from party meetings, including the one at Dachigam National Park on June 3, where the decision to protest at Jantar Mantar was made.
