The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging immediate action to ensure the safety and evacuation of Indian students in Iran. The association expressed deep concerns over the escalating security situation in Iran, particularly after recent military hostilities. Indian students, many from Kashmir pursuing medical education in Iran, are facing challenges due to the volatile environment and academic commitments.
The JKSA highlighted the risks faced by Indian students in Iran, emphasizing the need for urgent intervention to address the evolving security threats. With reports of Israeli Defense Forces’ strikes in Iran causing disruptions and heightened risks, the safety of Indian nationals, especially students, has become a pressing issue. The association pointed out that many students are unable to leave Iran due to ongoing examinations critical for their academic progress.
Nasir Kheuhami, the national convenor of JKSA, stressed the dilemma faced by students torn between personal safety and academic commitments. The lack of clear communication regarding examination schedules has added to the anxiety among students. Coordination among diplomatic channels and relevant authorities is deemed essential to ensure the safe movement and potential evacuation of Indian students from Iran if the situation worsens.
Faizan Nabi, the Iran Coordinator of the Association, called for immediate and effective coordination between Indian and Iranian authorities to facilitate organized evacuation, if necessary. The JKSA expressed confidence in the Government of India’s ability to protect its citizens abroad and safeguard the well-being and academic futures of Indian students in Iran amidst the current crisis.
