Three Jan Suraksha Schemes, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 9, 2015, have collectively enrolled 94.5 crore individuals to provide affordable financial protection, especially to the underserved. The schemes include Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY).
As of April 30, the cumulative enrollments under these schemes stand at over 27.43 crore for PMJJBY, more than 58.09 crore for PMSBY, and in excess of 9.04 crore for APY. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted that these schemes aim to offer low-cost insurance and pension benefits to the masses.
Finance Minister Sitharaman emphasized the significant achievements of the Jan Suraksha Schemes on their 11th anniversary, with PMJJBY settling claims exceeding Rs 21,500 crore for over 10.7 lakh families. Similarly, PMSBY has provided settlements totaling nearly Rs 3,660 crore for over 1.84 lakh families.
Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, reiterated the schemes’ objective of extending insurance coverage and pension support to the most vulnerable segments of society. The focus has been on digitalization and simplification of enrollment and claims processes, with the online Jan Suraksha Portal facilitating convenient enrollment without physical visits.
These flagship schemes are designed to enhance the insurance and pension landscape by safeguarding citizens against uncertainties and promoting long-term financial stability.
