Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has set off for her inaugural European tour since assuming office in October. Her itinerary includes visits to the UK, Italy, and participation in the G7 Summit in France. In the UK and Italy, Takaichi is scheduled to meet with Prime Ministers Kier Starmer and Georgia Meloni respectively to discuss various regional issues and enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as security, AI, quantum technology, and more.
Takaichi will then make her debut appearance at the G7 summit in Evian, France. She expressed her intent to engage in candid discussions with global leaders on pressing matters like energy security, market stabilization, and the resilience of supply chains. The summit aims to address geopolitical crises in regions like the Middle East, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific.
During her trip, Takaichi plans to focus on energy collaboration with G7 partners to counter unjust export restrictions and bolster oil stockpiles in regions like Asia. She also aims to strengthen cooperation between oil-producing and consuming nations to mitigate coercive actions and promote Japan’s vision of leading ‘Power Asia’ on the global stage.
Furthermore, Japan intends to propose a joint stockpiling cooperation framework for critical minerals, advocating for the establishment of stockpiling systems in G7 countries and fostering mutual linkages among these systems.
