Jay Shah, the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has sent his best wishes to all the teams participating in the Men’s T20 World Cup as the tournament kicks off. Co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, the 2026 event will feature 20 teams and 55 matches, promising a month of thrilling cricket action.
Expressing his excitement, Shah highlighted the diversity of champions in the tournament’s history, with six different winners in nine editions. He wished the teams luck as they vie for the title over the course of 55 matches in India and Sri Lanka. The tournament commences in Colombo with a match between Pakistan and the Netherlands, followed by other exciting fixtures in Kolkata and Mumbai on the opening day.
Matches will be held at various prestigious venues across India and Sri Lanka, including Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, and Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The summit clash, scheduled for March 8, will take place in either Ahmedabad or Colombo. The tournament format will see 20 teams divided into groups, with the top two from each group progressing to the Super 8 stage and eventually to the knockout rounds.
