Veteran bowler Jaydev Unadkat took four wickets as Saurashtra bowled out Chandigarh for 136 in their Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Elite Group B match. Saurashtra then secured a 31-run lead at Cricket Stadium, Sector 16, in Chandigarh. Opting to field first, Saurashtra dismissed Chandigarh in 42.1 overs, with Unadkat claiming 4-44, supported by Chirag Jani and Chetan Sakariya with two wickets each, and Prerak Mankad contributing one scalp.
Chandigarh’s Jagjit Singh Sandhu and Arjit Singh scored 29 runs each, while Arjun Azad made 20. In response, Saurashtra ended the day at 167/1 with Harvik Desai unbeaten on 80 off 117 balls and Jay Gohil not out on 61 off 59 deliveries. Additionally, Saurashtra spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja was honored for his 100th first-class appearance by skipper Unadkat, team manager Mohansinh Jadeja, and coach Niraj Odedara in the presence of both teams.
BCCI Apex Council member Jaydev Shah praised Jadeja, stating, “Dharmendra is an outstanding cricketer with exceptional spin skills. He has been a great contributor to the game and has brought glory to his teams on many occasions.” Meanwhile, at Holkar Stadium in Indore, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra had a dramatic opening day with 12 wickets falling. MP were bowled out for 187, and by stumps, Maharashtra was at 52/2.
In another match at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, Punjab recovered from 168/6 to finish the day at 303/9 against Karnataka on a turning pitch. Emanjot Chahal remained unbeaten on 77, while Shreyas Gopal and Vidyadhar Patil took three wickets each for Karnataka. Lastly, in Porvorim, Goa closed the day at 279-8 against Kerala, with Suyash Prabhudessai’s 86 and Yash Kasvankar’s 50 being notable contributions. Kerala’s Ankit Sharma shone with the ball, taking 5-88, supported by Nedumankuzhy Basil’s 2-55 and Sachin Baby’s 1-36.
