After Janata Dal (United) leader K.C. Tyagi suggested Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar be honored with the Bharat Ratna, the party clarified that Tyagi’s remarks were personal and not the party’s official stance. JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad emphasized that Tyagi’s recent statements should not be associated with the party, as there is uncertainty about his current status within the organization. Prasad highlighted that even party members are unsure if Tyagi remains an active member.
Echoing this sentiment, JD(U) Minister Ashok Choudhary distanced the party from Tyagi’s comments, stating that no formal decision has been made on the matter. Choudhary emphasized that Tyagi’s statements are his personal opinions and do not represent the party’s official position. He confirmed that the party will inform the public when a decision is reached on this issue.
K.C. Tyagi had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting the Bharat Ratna for JD(U) national president Nitish Kumar. Tyagi compared Nitish Kumar’s eligibility for the award to that of Chaudhary Charan Singh and Karpoori Thakur, who were honored last year. Tyagi’s recent statements, including his support for Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman, have not aligned with JD(U)’s official stance, causing controversy. He stressed the importance of keeping politics separate from sports and urged the BCCI to reconsider its decision regarding Rahman.
Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi expressed support for the idea of Nitish Kumar receiving the Bharat Ratna, calling it a “wonderful” possibility. Manjhi expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision-making abilities and anticipated that conferring the Bharat Ratna on Nitish Kumar would be a remarkable choice.
