New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS) Bengali cinema may boast an unquestionable legacy and a rich contribution to world cinema, but superstar Jeet feels it has not always received the recognition it deserves in mainstream India.
Talking about Hollywood filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s praise for legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray’ “Pather Panchali”, Jeet expressed hope that authentic and powerful storytelling will eventually bring it the wider recognition it deserves.
Nolan had described Satyajit Ray as one of the greatest filmmakers ever and called Pather Panchali an ‘absolutely incredible film.’
Asked as Bengal’s biggest star, does Jeet think Bengali cinema, despite its immense global legacy, doesn’t get the recognition it deserves in mainstream India?
Jeet told IANS: “It’s really unfortunate in a way that a cinema culture which has contributed so much to world cinema doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves in mainstream India.”
He added: “Bengali cinema has never lacked greatness—it has only lacked the scale of visibility that some other industries enjoy. Our legacy is unquestionable, and I believe that if we continue telling authentic, powerful stories, recognition will naturally follow. Great cinema always finds its audience.”
Jeet is gearing up for the release of his next ‘Keu Bole Biplabi Keu Bole Dakat.’
The film is a biographical action drama film directed by Pathikrit Basu. The film is based on the life of Indian revolutionary Anant Singh.
The film also stars Tota Roy Chowdhury, Kaushik Sen, Rajatav Dutt, Chandan Sen, Loknath Dey, and Mimi Chakraborty.
Set against the backdrop of 1960s Kolkata, “Keu Bole Biplobi Keu Bole Dakat” follows the mysterious Ananta Singh, an aging figure whose daring robberies of the powerful divide public opinion, hailed by some as a criminal and revered by others as a modern-day revolutionary.
As Inspector Durga Roy launches a relentless pursuit, the story unfolds across shifting timelines, tracing Ananta’s journey from a fearless freedom fighter under Masterda Surya Sen during India’s independence movement to a disillusioned man who wages a new battle against corruption and injustice.
