Jhansi, August 12 (IANS) A dashcam video purportedly showing the fatal road accident involving Aban Ahmad, the youngest son of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, has gone viral on social media platforms.

The Jhansi police on Wednesday confirmed that an investigation is underway to verify the authenticity and genuineness of the video footage and have appealed to the public not to share or circulate the video until its authenticity is properly established.

According to the police, the accident took place on August 6, under the jurisdiction of Poonch Police Station in Jhansi district.

Aban Ahmad (21) was travelling with four others in a white Hyundai Creta car from Prayagraj to Jhansi to meet his elder brother Ali Ahmad, who is lodged in Jhansi jail.

The vehicle, reportedly travelling at high speed on the Jhansi-Kanpur National Highway near Khilli village, lost control, hit a concrete divider and overturned.

The impact was so severe that the SUV was flung into the air before crashing back onto the road.

Aban and his friend Sonu (25) died on the spot, while three other occupants sustained injuries and were rushed for treatment.

The viral video, recorded from a vehicle travelling behind the Creta car, appears to capture the moments leading up to the crash, showing the SUV veering, colliding with the divider and being thrown into the air.

Officials of Jhansi Police said that they are examining the video carefully to confirm whether it is genuine and accurately depicts the sequence of events.

In a public appeal and video message on social media platform X, the police requested citizens to refrain from sharing or disseminating the video clip until verification is complete.

They cautioned that circulating unverified content can spread misinformation and interfere with the ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident.

Background checks show that Aban was the youngest of Atiq Ahmad’s sons. His father and uncle were shot dead in 2023, while another brother, Asad Ahmad, was killed in a police encounter the same year.

Police teams from Poonch Police Station reached the spot promptly after the accident, conducted rescue operations and initiated a formal probe.

Further updates will be shared through official channels once the authenticity of the viral video is confirmed.
