The Jharkhand Police successfully rescued two siblings, Ansh and Anshika, aged four and five, who were kidnapped from Ranchi’s Dhurwa police station area 12 days ago. Two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident. The children were found in the Chitarpur area of Ramgarh district after an extensive search operation.
Their disappearance had sparked public outrage and protests in the city. The siblings had gone missing on January 2 while going to a nearby shop from their home near Mausi Bari Khatal in Dhurwa to buy groceries. Despite efforts to locate them, they were reported missing on January 3, prompting a search operation.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising 40 members was formed under SSP Rakesh Ranjan’s supervision due to the gravity of the case. The police utilized technical and human intelligence to examine over 5,000 mobile numbers and reviewed footage from approximately 2,000 CCTV cameras in Ranchi and its vicinity.
A poster drive was initiated with the assistance of voluntary groups, offering a reward of Rs 4 lakh for information leading to the children’s rescue. Various political parties and social bodies held demonstrations, and a shutdown was observed in Dhurwa sub-town. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) also intervened and requested a report from the Jharkhand Director General of Police.
Following crucial leads, the SIT located the children in Chitarpur, where they were rescued unharmed. Initial inquiries suggest that the siblings were taken by members of a nomadic Gulgulia gang. Both children are reported to be in good health, and arrangements are being made to reunite them with their family.
The interrogation of the arrested suspects is ongoing to determine the motive behind the abduction and identify other accomplices. Jharkhand DGP Tadasha Mishra will provide further details on the abduction and successful rescue of the children in a forthcoming press conference.
