A tragic incident unfolded on National Highway-48 near Kallambella in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district as a jilted lover detonated a country-made bomb inside a car, resulting in his death. The explosion occurred following the alleged abduction of a young woman, with the woman and the cab driver narrowly escaping. Another live bomb was found at the scene by the police.
The deceased, identified as 30-year-old Nagendra from Ankola in Karwar district, had a long-standing relationship with the woman, Ramya, who worked as a laboratory technician in Bengaluru. Ramya reportedly declined Nagendra’s marriage proposal, leading to the tragic events. Nagendra forcibly took Ramya from her accommodation in Bengaluru, prompting a missing person complaint to be filed by one of her friends.
During their journey on National Highway-48, an argument ensued between Nagendra and Ramya, resulting in Nagendra assaulting her. Ramya managed to escape by jumping out of the moving vehicle, with the cab driver coming to her aid. Subsequently, Nagendra locked himself in the car and set off a bomb, causing his own demise and severely damaging the vehicle.
The cab driver, Praveen, recounted a slightly different version of events, claiming that he was informed of the alleged kidnapping while en route. He mentioned that Nagendra attacked Ramya with a knife and attempted to help her escape before the fatal explosion. Police are now investigating the source of the explosives and collaborating with authorities from both Bengaluru and Tumakuru in the ongoing probe.
