The J&K and Ladakh High Court has expressed concern over the Station House Officer of Sopore police station failing to follow a court order and has summoned the officer to appear in person. The court criticized the officer for not adhering to the court’s directive, terming it as mocking the court’s authority. This issue arose in connection with the execution of bailable warrants related to a bail cancellation matter.
Justice Rahul Bharti issued the directive while considering a bail application filed by the Union Territory through Police Station Sopore seeking the cancellation of bail granted to Isharat Ahmad Mir in an NDPS case. The case involves FIR No. 30/2023 registered under Sections 8 and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, at Police Station Sopore. Isharat Ahmad Mir, the accused, was granted regular bail by the Additional Sessions Judge, Sopore, on August 8, 2024, after being in custody since February 23, 2023.
The bail conditions included restrictions such as not leaving the UT of J&K without court permission, refraining from repeating the offense, providing contact and residence details, and not intimidating prosecution witnesses. The Department of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of UT of J&K, sanctioned a petition for bail cancellation on November 25, 2024. Despite the issuance of bailable warrants by the High Court on October 29, 2025, the respondent did not appear, leading to the SHO’s direction to execute the warrants.
