Abhinavagupta’s teachings emphasized the real, joyous nature of the universe as a manifestation of Shiva consciousness. He advocated for ‘Pratyabhijna’, the path of Self-recognition, highlighting the unity between the individual soul and Lord Shiva. His work ‘Tantraloka’ is a comprehensive spiritual guide that integrates various tantric and Shaivite traditions.
Acharya Abhinavagupta’s legacy extends to aesthetics, particularly through his commentary on Bharata’s Natya Shastra, explaining how art evokes aesthetic emotion. He believed that spiritual liberation was attainable by all, irrespective of social status or gender. In his later years, he was revered as an incarnation of Lord Shiva and is said to have achieved final liberation in the sacred Bhairava Cave in Kashmir.
