Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has opted to decrease the size of his convoy following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation and cost-cutting. This decision aims to promote simplicity, curb unnecessary expenses, and contribute to fuel-saving initiatives. The convoy typically includes pilot vehicles with sirens, an ambulance, quick response teams, and security vehicles, but the downsizing is being done without compromising VIP security.
In response to PM Modi’s plea for energy conservation and reduced foreign exchange outflows, government sources in New Delhi clarified that these actions are not austerity measures. They emphasized that the government is not implementing traditional austerity measures involving budget cuts or reduced spending. Instead, the focus is on wise spending, particularly on reducing fuel consumption and limiting reliance on imported goods and foreign-currency-intensive services.
During a recent rally in Hyderabad, PM Modi urged citizens to cut down on petrol and diesel usage, utilize public transportation like Metro rail, practice carpooling, increase electric vehicle adoption, use railway services for parcel transportation, and work from home to save foreign exchange. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of reducing reliance on foreign products and promoting self-reliance.
