AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal criticized Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, likening his recent media interaction to a defeated leader’s lament after a loss. Venugopal accused Vijayan of aligning with majoritarian communal forces to salvage his political position, a move he believes won’t deceive the peace-loving people of Kerala.
Venugopal highlighted the significant voter backlash against the LDF in recent local elections, suggesting that Vijayan’s response to this defeat was both dangerous and irresponsible. He further alleged that Vijayan had become a key ally of the Sangh Parivar in Kerala, articulating views that even they hesitate to express openly.
The Congress leader dismissed allegations against his party as opportunistic and lacking factual basis. He criticized Vijayan for what he termed as distorting history, particularly regarding the CPI(M)’s stance on Jamaat-e-Islami, accusing the Chief Minister of engaging in efforts to appease majoritarian communalism.
Venugopal also questioned Vijayan’s handling of communal harmony, warning against seeking votes through deepening communal divides or inciting hatred. He criticized the Chief Minister’s anti-corruption claims, citing the alleged protection of individuals involved in the Sabarimala gold theft case as evidence of hollow rhetoric.
