Kajari Banerjee, who is Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s sister-in-law, expressed certainty that the Trinamool Congress will emerge victorious in the West Bengal Assembly elections. She accused the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) of working in favor of the BJP. Banerjee, a Trinamool Congress Councillor from Ward no. 73 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, highlighted that the current trends suggest Mamata Banerjee’s success in the elections.
Meanwhile, tensions rose at the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency in South Kolkata, where clashes erupted between Trinamool Congress activists and central forces. The situation escalated as BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari faced protests and accusations of inciting chaos. Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, remained confident in his victory, emphasizing the need for peaceful polling in Bhabanipur.
Kajari Banerjee refuted Adhikari’s claims of instigation, stating that he disrupted the peaceful polling process. She criticized Adhikari for allegedly seeking votes through agitation and chaos. Banerjee further criticized the central forces, alleging their alignment with the BJP and expressing lack of trust in their impartiality.
Polling is currently ongoing for 142 constituencies across six districts in the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, with a voter turnout of 61.11% recorded in the initial six hours.
