Former US Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her disapproval of the detention of a five-year-old boy and his father by US immigration authorities. The boy, Liam Ramos, and his father were taken to a detention center in Dilley, Texas, despite having an active asylum claim. The family had legally entered the US from Ecuador in 2024.

Marc Prokosch, a lawyer representing the family, emphasized that they were following a legal pathway and were not illegal aliens. Liam Conejo Ramos, the five-year-old boy, was detained along with his father, Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias, as they arrived home. The father fled on foot, leaving Liam behind in the vehicle when approached by agents.

Stenvik, the district superintendent, revealed that despite offers from others to care for Liam, federal agents did not allow it. School officials accused immigration agents of using Liam as “bait” to apprehend others, a claim that immigration officials denied. Mary Granlad, a school representative, had requested to keep Liam but was unsuccessful in her efforts.
