Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor recently commemorated the 26th anniversary of her debut film ‘Refugee’ by sharing nostalgic stills on social media. The movie, released on June 30, 2000, marked the beginning of Kareena’s and Abhishek Bachchan’s acting careers. ‘Refugee’, directed by J.P. Dutta, portrayed a love story amidst the backdrop of the India-Pakistan border in the Great Rann of Kutch.
Kareena posted two iconic stills from the film, one featuring her and Abhishek Bachchan in an emotional scene, and another showing her in a close-up shot wrapped in a brown shawl. Despite not being a commercial success, ‘Refugee’ was praised for its unique plot, strong performances, and melodious music. The movie depicted the tale of an unnamed man, Refugee, played by Abhishek Bachchan, who aids people in crossing the border illegally and falls in love with Nazneen, portrayed by Kareena Kapoor, amidst political turmoil.
The film’s soundtrack, composed by Anu Malik, included popular songs like ‘Panchhi Nadiyan Pawan Ke Jhonke’ and ‘Mere Humsafar’, which are still cherished by fans. Following her debut, Kareena Kapoor has become one of Bollywood’s leading actresses, starring in numerous successful films over the past two decades. Currently, she is preparing for her upcoming project, ‘Daayra’, directed by Meghna Gulzar.
