Karnataka made history by completing the second-highest run chase in List-A cricket, successfully pursuing a daunting target of 413 runs against Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. This remarkable feat now ranks as the second-best chase in List-A history, following South Africa’s record chase of 435 runs against Australia in 2006.

Leading the charge for Karnataka was Devdutt Padikkal, who showcased a stellar performance with a magnificent century. Padikkal’s impressive knock of 147 runs off 118 deliveries, including 10 boundaries and seven sixes, played a pivotal role in steering the team towards victory. Despite the challenging required run rate of over 8 runs per over for most of the innings, Padikkal’s composed batting stood out.

In a high-scoring encounter, Jharkhand’s skipper Ishan Kishan set the stage on fire with a blistering century off just 33 balls, marking the second-fastest century in Indian List-A history. His explosive innings propelled Jharkhand past the 400-run mark, initially making the chase seem insurmountable in List-A cricket.

Karnataka’s batting lineup rose to the occasion with determination and aggression, matching the intensity displayed by Jharkhand’s bowlers. Mayank Agarwal’s brisk 54 provided early impetus, while Abhinav Manohar’s aggressive 56 maintained a rapid scoring rate in the middle overs, helping Karnataka stay on track. The collective efforts of these batsmen kept the required run rate in check throughout the innings.

Dhruv Prabhakar, making his List-A debut, showcased maturity beyond his years with an unbeaten 40 that sealed the victory for Karnataka. Prabhakar’s adeptness in finding gaps and rotating the strike efficiently proved crucial in the successful chase, highlighting his promising talent and composure under pressure.

With this historic achievement, Karnataka has etched its name in the List-A record books, surpassing renowned teams like Queensland, Karachi, and Middlesex. The team’s remarkable chase now stands as a testament to their resilience and skill in the realm of List-A cricket.
