The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the Congress-led state government for impeding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The SIR initiative began in Karnataka with over 59,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducting a door-to-door verification exercise to maintain accurate voter lists. Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly R. Ashoka alleged that the state government is causing obstacles by not deploying an adequate number of BLOs as required.
Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and BJP MLA C.N. Ashwath Narayan raised concerns about the state government’s handling of the SIR process. He emphasized the importance of appointing only government employees as Booth Level Officers to ensure a transparent and efficient revision of electoral rolls. Ashwath Narayan highlighted that the objective of the SIR exercise is to eliminate duplicate entries and ineligible names from the voter lists.
The BJP leaders accused the Congress of hindering the SIR exercise by appointing party functionaries instead of government officials as Booth Level Officers in certain areas. They emphasized the need for a fair and unbiased revision process to maintain the integrity of the electoral rolls. The BJP urged the Election Commission to address these alleged violations promptly and ensure the proper conduct of the SIR initiative.
