Karnataka BJP Chief and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for leading the nation as the “Pradhan Sevak” and stressed the importance of women in India’s development by 2047. He highlighted initiatives under former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa that empowered girls, including the Bhagyalakshmi scheme and a bicycle program to support education in rural areas. Vijayendra criticized the state government for its response to a recent incident in Belagavi involving a Scheduled Tribe woman, urging for better support and confidence-building measures for women.
Vijayendra underscored the increasing awareness among women and encouraged them to take on leadership roles in society, noting their progress in various fields. He also commended PM Modi’s commitment to women’s reservation and cited the election of Droupadi Murmu, a woman from the Scheduled Tribe community, as the President of India as a significant step. International Women’s Day was highlighted as a meaningful celebration that recognizes women’s achievements and promotes gender equality and awareness of women’s rights.
The BJP leader mentioned the historical respect for women in India, citing examples of revered figures like saint Akka Mahadevi, Kittur Rani Chennamma, and Onake Obavva from Karnataka. The event where Vijayendra spoke was attended by several prominent political figures, including former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and former Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan, among others.
