Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed confidence in the people’s support for the Congress party’s victory in the Bagalkot and Davanagere by-elections, emphasizing their commitment to social justice. He mentioned that Umesh Meti, the Congress candidate for the Bagalkot Assembly by-election, has been chosen following a consensus and best wishes were extended to him. The government’s fulfillment of promises and implementation of pro-people schemes during 2013-2018 and from 2023 were highlighted by the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister noted that election manifesto guarantees have been effectively executed, involving an expenditure of Rs 1.21 lakh crore. Despite criticism from the BJP, the government remains dedicated to social justice, with the people’s satisfaction evident in the Congress party’s previous by-election victories. Siddaramaiah criticized the BJP for focusing solely on Hindutva and failing to undertake development work under the Upper Krishna Project Phase-3 during its tenure.
He further mentioned the government’s decision to provide appropriate compensation for lands affected by the project, with Rs 70,000 crore allocated in this year’s budget for the purpose. Establishing a government medical college in Bagalkot, a dream of late H.Y. Meti, was highlighted as a significant initiative to facilitate medical education for rural students and enhance healthcare services in the region. Siddaramaiah expressed confidence in the people’s support for Congress candidate Umesh Meti in the upcoming by-elections.
The Chief Minister criticized the BJP for its misinformation campaign and stated that people have rejected the party, emphasizing that the Congress is poised to win both the Davanagere and Bagalkot by-elections.
