Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to request support for enhancing the state’s security infrastructure and modernizing the police force. He submitted a memorandum outlining various initiatives, including the creation of additional India Reserve Battalions, modernization of prisons, and upgrades for police training institutions.
Shivakumar emphasized the need for approval to confer the prestigious President’s Colour award on the Karnataka State Police, a proposal currently under consideration by the Union Government since May 8, 2024. He also sought permission to establish two more India Reserve Battalions in specific districts, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 243.87 crore.
To bolster policing capabilities, the Chief Minister urged quick approval of a Rs 280-crore proposal for setting up Command and Control Centres and communication infrastructure in major cities under the Assistance to States and Union Territories for Modernization of Police scheme.
The memorandum also included requests for accessing Corporate Social Responsibility funds for police-related activities, upgrading police training facilities, modernizing prisons, and enhancing CCTV surveillance systems in police stations across Karnataka. Shivakumar highlighted the importance of these measures in improving the state’s overall law enforcement and security infrastructure.
