Filmmaker and actor Shashi Ranjan praised the film ‘Satluj’ for its storytelling and emotional depth, calling it one of the finest films he has seen recently. In an interview, he emphasized the impactful narrative and strong performances in the movie. Ranjan expressed disagreement with banning films based on historical subjects, suggesting that such actions only spark more interest among viewers.

Presenting history through cinema, according to Ranjan, does not mislead today’s educated youth. He expressed hope for the film’s return to a digital platform, stating that banning films serves no purpose and only generates curiosity among audiences. Ranjan highlighted the emotional impact and narrative beauty of ‘Satluj,’ believing that showcasing historical events to young audiences is beneficial rather than harmful.

Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Satluj’ (previously ‘Punjab ’95’) was removed from the ZEE5 streaming platform in India shortly after its release, following concerns raised by authorities regarding its depiction of police actions in 1990s Punjab. The film was leaked online shortly after its removal, sparking discussions about censorship and historical representation.
