Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reiterated the Congress party’s backing for women’s reservation, highlighting the party’s role in implementing it in local bodies. Speaking at an event in Chamarajanagar district, he refuted BJP’s claims of Congress opposing the Women’s Reservation Bill. Siddaramaiah pointed out that the Congress has consistently advocated for women’s representation, emphasizing the importance of fair inclusion for nearly half of the population.
Referring to past BJP opposition to constitutional amendments, Siddaramaiah criticized the party’s stance on delaying the implementation of reservations. He clarified that Congress’ objection was to the delimitation exercise accompanying the Women’s Reservation Act, not the reservation itself. The Chief Minister credited Congress governments for the significant representation of women in various local bodies and highlighted ongoing development projects in Gundlupet taluk.
Siddaramaiah underscored the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, citing substantial investments in Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes welfare programs. He emphasized Congress’ dedication to the welfare of marginalized communities and criticized BJP for alleged divisive tactics based on caste and religion. The Chief Minister urged the public to discern the truth amidst political misinformation and reiterated the party’s focus on holistic development.
