Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated that a decision on releasing Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu will be made post the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) meeting on July 15. Emphasizing the state’s priorities, he mentioned the need to balance drinking water supply, farmers’ interests, and court directives on Tamil Nadu’s water share. The Chief Minister assured that Karnataka’s stance would be presented strongly at the upcoming CWMA meeting.
In response to demands from Mandya legislators for Cauvery water release, Shivakumar confirmed discussions with concerned parties and assured a decision after the CWMA meeting. Additionally, he announced the commencement of the Karnataka Legislature’s Monsoon Session on August 6. Addressing queries on official engagements, he outlined plans for a brief visit to New Delhi for official matters and subsequent discussions with party leaders.
Regarding the suspension of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) Chairman by the Governor, Shivakumar disclosed the interim arrangement of assigning responsibilities to the senior-most Commission member. He also highlighted the historical significance of Karnataka’s privilege to receive the first “Aarti” at the Tirumala temple, extending the opportunity to various dignitaries from the state. The Chief Minister clarified that this decision pertains solely to the first Aarti, with existing rules under the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams administration remaining unchanged.
