Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar emphasized the state’s vital role in India’s progress and appealed for increased backing from the Union Government. Addressing the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting, he stressed the need for support in enhancing infrastructure, human development, and innovation. Shivakumar highlighted Karnataka’s development model based on investing in human capabilities, social equity, and opportunities for all citizens.
Calling for stronger cooperative federalism, the Chief Minister advocated for equal partnership between states and the Centre in policymaking and development. He urged the Union Government to provide one-time infrastructure grants for government educational institutions and incentivize states to improve human development indicators. Additionally, Shivakumar renewed the state’s request for the approval of Rapid Rail Transit System corridors connecting Bengaluru with satellite towns and cities.
Emphasizing the importance of inclusive human development, Shivakumar reiterated the necessity of cooperative federalism, collaborative governance, and a collective national effort. He highlighted Karnataka’s significant contribution to India’s GDP and services exports, underlining the state’s position as a key driver of economic growth and innovation. The Chief Minister also outlined various welfare schemes aimed at enhancing the quality of life for citizens, including initiatives supporting women, students, and unemployed graduates.
