Amid speculation about leadership conflicts in Karnataka Congress, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated he would respect the party’s decision, expecting clarity to emerge in due course. Responding to queries regarding his supporters advocating for his Chief Minister candidacy, Shivakumar emphasized the importance of adhering to the party’s directives. He acknowledged the aspirations of supporters and the media, highlighting the necessity of aligning with the party’s stance.
The debate over leadership resurfaced following Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah’s affirmation that the party high command had not endorsed calls for a leadership change. Yathindra’s remarks, made in Mysuru, were seen as a response to Congress MLA Shivaganga Basavaraj’s plea to the party high command to address the leadership ambiguity. In a sarcastic tone, Shivakumar acknowledged Yathindra’s statement, humorously referring to him as the high command.
Regarding the recent Metro fare hike, Shivakumar clarified that the decision was made by an independent committee without consulting the state government. He emphasized the need to assess the financial implications and public convenience, expressing intent to review the matter upon returning to Bengaluru. Shivakumar assured that the public’s interests would be considered in the decision-making process.
