Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar expressed sorrow over the wall collapse incident in Bengaluru that resulted in seven fatalities. The victims included four roadside vendors, two tourists from Kerala, and a child. Shivakumar visited the injured at Bowring Hospital and conveyed his shock at the unfortunate event.
He mentioned that the victims comprised vendors and visitors, emphasizing that such incidents should never occur. The Deputy Chief Minister disclosed that the victims’ families would receive compensation from the Chief Minister. The collapse occurred when a group of 56 people from Kerala sought shelter near the wall during rain while shopping on Commercial Street.
Shivakumar instructed officials to address fallen trees and branches causing damage in the city. He also responded to criticism from the opposition, stating that solutions were being sought. An inquiry into the incident has been initiated, with eight rain-related deaths reported in Bengaluru. Measures to prevent similar incidents in the future are being planned.
