Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar accused the Centre of showing bias towards Karnataka in the Union Budget. He criticized BJP MPs and Union Ministers from the state for not addressing this issue, stating they seemed inactive. Shivakumar highlighted the failure of the Centre to fulfill commitments, specifically mentioning the pending release of funds for the Bhadra Upper Project.
Shivakumar responded to the BJP’s corruption allegations against the Congress-led government and the demand for the resignation of Minister for Excise R.B. Thimmapur. He pointed out that the Congress has also exposed various scams involving the BJP, emphasizing the need for completion of investigations before drawing conclusions. The extension of the special Assembly session to discuss MGNREGA was discussed, with Shivakumar explaining the challenges of withdrawing the VB–GRAM–G Act during the peak agricultural season.
Regarding the increase in workdays under MGNREGA, Shivakumar expressed concerns about the practicality of providing work for the extended period. He highlighted financial losses faced by gram panchayats and job card holders due to the current situation. Shivakumar also addressed the issue of compensating families affected by monkey fever (Kyasanur Forest Disease), indicating a need for further examination before providing details.
