The Karnataka government is organizing a high-level consultation workshop at Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to select and finalize the initial set of tourist destinations for development to international standards. Tourism Minister K.J. George highlighted that this initiative is crucial in positioning Karnataka as a prominent global tourism destination. The state aims to enhance its tourism sector significantly by creating a world-class tourism ecosystem.
As part of its vision to elevate Karnataka into a competitive global tourism hub, the state government will host a state-level high-level consultative workshop on “Developing Global Standard Tourist Destinations” at Hampi on July 7. The workshop will bring together government officials, industry representatives, investors, and tourism experts to establish a clear roadmap for the development of globally competitive tourist spots. The decisions made during this workshop are expected to influence the future growth of Karnataka’s tourism industry over the next decade.
The consultation, led by Tourism Minister George and attended by key officials including Union Joint Secretary, Tourism Suvashish Das, will focus on identifying destinations with the potential to be transformed into global-standard tourism hubs. Discussions will cover various crucial aspects such as infrastructure enhancement, visitor experience, private sector investments, environmental sustainability, community involvement, connectivity, destination branding, international marketing, and sustainable tourism models. The workshop will also feature recommendations from experts across sectors to aid in formulating a long-term strategy for tourism development.
The government anticipates finalizing the first set of priority destinations based on the recommendations arising from the workshop. These selected destinations will receive top-notch infrastructure, enhanced visitor amenities, sustainable tourism practices, strategic private investments, and international branding to solidify Karnataka’s status as a premier global tourism destination.
