Elections have been announced to fill seven empty positions in the Karnataka Legislative Council after the retirement of current members. The notification for the elections was released by M.K. Vishalakshi, the Secretary and Returning Officer of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The vacancies have occurred due to the retirement of members from various political parties including Congress and BJP.
The nomination process began promptly after the notification was issued. As per the election timetable, June 8 is the deadline for filing nominations. Nomination papers will be scrutinized on June 9, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until June 11. If necessary, polling will take place on June 18 from 9 am to 4 p.m. at the Vidhana Soudha. Vote counting will commence on the same day from 5 p.m. onwards, and the election process is set to conclude by June 20.
The election officer for this process will be Karnataka Legislative Assembly Secretary Vishalakshi, with assistance from Karnataka Legislative Assembly Director B.S. Mahalingesh. Candidates are required to submit their nominations using Form D, and a minimum of 10 sitting MLAs must endorse the contestant by signing in support. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates need to deposit Rs 5,000, while other candidates must deposit Rs 10,000 along with their nominations.
