Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker, U.T. Khader, responded to the Sringeri recount controversy and allegations of delay in administering the oath to BJP MLA D.N. Jeevaraj. The Speaker assured that the process would adhere to constitutional provisions and be completed promptly.
The Sringeri recount issue escalated when a Karnataka BJP delegation met Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, lodging a complaint against Speaker U.T. Khader for the delay in administering Jeevaraj’s oath. The BJP leaders requested the Governor to personally conduct the oath ceremony.
Khader, speaking in Mangaluru, confirmed his commitment to promptly administering the oath to the winning candidate and informing Jeevaraj accordingly. He clarified that Governor Gehlot had contacted him regarding the matter and emphasized that the delay was not intentional but part of a thorough process following legal consultation.
Dismissing claims of intentional delay, Khader emphasized his adherence to constitutional norms and rules, highlighting the need for careful consideration given the situation’s complexity. He cautioned against statements undermining democratic and parliamentary systems, urging clarity and trust in constitutional institutions.
