Karnataka State Election Commissioner G.S. Sangreshi has instructed officials to announce the election dates for the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) civic polls between June 14 and June 24. The meeting, chaired by Sangreshi, discussed elections to the five city corporations under the GBA’s jurisdiction. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar were notably absent from the meeting.
Addressing the press after the meeting, Sangreshi emphasized the need to finalize and announce the election schedule within the specified dates. He highlighted the legal requirement for consultations between the State Election Commission and the GBA before setting the poll schedule. Sangreshi mentioned that the GBA had confirmed completion of preparations for the elections, with only the announcement of dates pending.
GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao confirmed that processes like ward delimitation, voter list preparation, and reservation had been completed. Instructions were issued for the appointment of election officials, including Returning Officers and Booth Level Officers. Officials were also directed to expedite ongoing government programs before the elections.
