The night temperatures in Kashmir fell below freezing on Thursday, with Gulmarg hitting minus 9 degrees Celsius. Srinagar recorded minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam saw minus 4.5. Jammu had 7.2 degrees Celsius, Katra 6.4, Batote 0.9, Banihal minus 2.6, and Bhaderwah minus 3.4.
The Meteorological Department predicts dry, cloudy weather until January 31, followed by generally cloudy conditions with light to moderate rain/snow on February 1 and 2. From February 3 to 6, dry weather is expected. Avalanche warnings have been issued in Ganderbal, Bandipora, and Kupwara due to prevailing weather conditions.
Authorities advise caution in higher reaches of these districts after an avalanche in Sonamarg. The Srinagar-Jammu highway is open for two-way traffic, while the Srinagar-Leh and Mughal Road remain closed due to heavy snowfall. Flight operations at Srinagar International Airport have resumed.
