The Kashmir Women’s Organisation (KWO) has announced plans to enhance efforts against drug addiction by empowering women in awareness, prevention, and rehabilitation initiatives as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign. Chairperson Darakhshan Hassan Bhat emphasized the importance of expanding awareness programs, strengthening family support systems, and providing counseling and rehabilitation services for women affected by substance abuse.
Bhat highlighted the critical role of women in combating drug addiction, noting that they are often the most impacted either directly or as family members of those struggling with substance abuse. She stressed the need to empower women as key agents of change to build resilient families and communities capable of tackling the drug menace effectively. The KWO is gearing up to intensify its efforts following the government’s 100-day Nasha Mukt Abhiyan initiative, with a focus on further strengthening its contributions in the upcoming months.
The KWO, through its various initiatives, has engaged thousands of women and reached millions through digital platforms. Bhat mentioned the organization’s success in creating a network of women leaders and promoting women’s leadership through programs like the Gender Equity Fellowship. She also highlighted the role of platforms like the Darakshan Sitaray podcast and social media in promoting positive narratives and encouraging women to take on leadership roles.
Acknowledging challenges such as domestic violence and limited opportunities, the KWO continues to address these issues through awareness campaigns, mentorship, and grassroots outreach, particularly in rural areas. Looking ahead, the organization aims to expand its grassroots presence, support women’s entrepreneurship, enhance digital literacy, and increase women’s participation in decision-making processes over the next five years, with a strong focus on combating drug addiction.
