The ‘Kama Ashwa Show’ horse exhibition and sports festival kicked off in Wankaner, Morbi district, Gujarat, with the presence of Minister Jitu Vaghani and other dignitaries. This event, honoring former ruler Digvijaysinh Zala, showcases Gujarat’s Kathiawadi horse breed heritage. Minister Vaghani emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving native horse breeds and announced plans for a new breeding center.
The Kathiawadi horses, known for their bravery and calm nature, play vital roles in public services like mounted police units. Minister Vaghani stressed the importance of animal welfare through stringent veterinary checks before competitions. Over 250 horses out of 300 registrations qualified for the various categories, reflecting the event’s popularity and significance. The festival also included a best horse decoration competition and an impressive display by the Rajkot Police Mounted Unit.
Minister of State for Education Revaba Jadeja highlighted the cultural significance of horses in India’s traditions, citing their presence in epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Rajya Sabha MP Kesridevsinh Zala praised the historical importance of horses in warrior culture, underscoring their role in shaping Saurashtra’s identity. The event, graced by public representatives and citizens, marked a vibrant start to the prestigious equine festival.
