Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed disapproval of the reported sequel to the film The Kerala Story, accusing it of aiming to fuel hatred against the state and undermine its secular values. Vijayan stated that the original film contained misleading information and divisive content, which was rejected by the people of Kerala. He criticized the sequel for portraying Kerala in a negative light and distorting its image.
Vijayan alleged that organizations associated with the Sangh Parivar were promoting the film and depicting inter-faith marriages as communal issues or forced conversions. He emphasized Kerala’s history of communal harmony and condemned efforts to tarnish the state’s reputation. The Chief Minister labeled the reported sequel as part of a deliberate misinformation campaign and called for resistance against attempts to label Kerala as an extremist hub.
Questioning the screening standards, Vijayan cited a previous incident where a film named Beef allegedly faced screening denial while other divisive films were permitted. He highlighted Kerala’s progress in development and its commitment to communal harmony. Vijayan urged the public to uphold constitutional values, combat misinformation with facts, and uphold Kerala’s secular principles.
