Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan kicked off his election campaign by criticizing the Opposition for resorting to false propaganda instead of engaging in fair politics. Speaking at the LDF convention in his constituency, Vijayan accused his rivals of spreading lies akin to Joseph Goebbels, urging party workers to combat misinformation at the grassroots level. This marks Vijayan’s initial public campaign meeting amid a challenging political environment for the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist).
The Left Front is facing challenges following a lackluster performance in the recent local body elections, signaling potential trouble ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls. Internal dissent within the party, especially in strongholds like Kannur, has further complicated matters. Two veteran leaders have openly criticized the party’s functioning and are now contesting elections with the UDF’s support, while key figures have also defected.
Despite these setbacks, Vijayan remains optimistic, highlighting his government’s rapport with the public. While acknowledging the difficulty of personally reaching every voter, he called on party members to ramp up the campaign efforts statewide. Kerala is gearing up for elections on April 9 to elect 140 members to the Legislative Assembly, setting the stage for a closely watched political showdown.
