Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan has secured the significant portfolios of Finance, Law, and Ports in the 21-member United Democratic Front (UDF) ministry. The Cabinet’s structure mirrors the coalition dynamics, with the Congress holding 12 positions and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) having five.
Other alliance partners, including the Revolutionary Socialist Party, the Communist Marxist Party, the Kerala Congress-Joseph, and the Kerala Congress-Jacob, each received one cabinet berth. Notably, 14 cabinet members, including Chief Minister Satheesan, are new to ministerial roles, with six entering as first-time MLAs.
The swearing-in of the newly appointed MLAs is scheduled for Thursday, followed by the election of the Speaker on Friday. The legislative assembly reconvenes on May 29 for Governor Rajendra V. Arlekar to deliver the government’s address, with discussions on the address commencing on June 1.
The portfolio distribution includes Chief Minister Satheesan overseeing Finance, Law, and Ports, Ramesh Chennithala handling Home, Vigilance, and Coir, and Sunny Joseph managing Electricity, Environment, and Parliamentary Affairs, among others.
