Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan praised NASA astronaut Anil Menon, hailing from Palakkad, for successfully reaching the International Space Station (ISS). Menon, with roots in Ottapalam, Palakkad, embarked on an eight-month mission aboard Russia’s Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft, focusing on scientific research and technology demonstrations. Satheesan expressed admiration for Menon’s journey, emphasizing the state’s appreciation for his commitment.
Menon, accompanied by Roscosmos cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina, safely docked at the ISS’s Prichal module after a three-hour journey from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome. The trio’s arrival boosted the station’s crew to 10 members for the next two weeks, marking Menon’s inaugural space voyage.
Before liftoff, Menon shared his excitement for serving the United States Space Force and NASA, highlighting his support for international space endeavors. Menon’s mission aboard the ISS until 2027 will involve scientific research to advance human space exploration and enhance terrestrial life. His tasks include semiconductor crystal production for high-performance computers, ultrasound experiments, and blood flow studies in space.
NASA announced that Expedition 75 will commence on July 26, following the completion of the current crew’s science mission. Menon’s mission garnered well-wishes from various organizations and supporters, including the American Board of Emergency Medicine. The ISS, a vital platform for scientific research in microgravity, continues to facilitate advancements in various fields, preparing for future space missions.
