Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan is set to have his first official meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday. This meeting holds significance as it comes shortly after Satheesan assumed office. It marks an important engagement between the two leaders.
This meeting will be the first between Satheesan and PM Modi since the United Democratic Front government took charge in Kerala. While the specific agenda has not been officially revealed, the discussions are anticipated to center around Kerala’s immediate development priorities, central assistance, and state issues requiring intervention from the Union government.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister is scheduled to meet Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi at 2.30 pm. Over the weekend, Satheesan engaged in back-to-back meetings with senior Congress leaders, indicating ongoing collaboration between the party leadership and the new Kerala administration.
During these interactions, Satheesan expressed gratitude to the Congress high command for their support during the Assembly elections. The discussions also touched upon organizational matters and the party’s future political strategy. Satheesan’s visit to Delhi after assuming office drew enthusiastic crowds at Kerala House, where students and supporters gathered to welcome him late into the night.
The Chief Minister took time to interact with visitors and posed for photographs, adding to the celebratory atmosphere surrounding his arrival in the national capital. Satheesan led the Congress-led United Democratic Front to a remarkable victory in the Assembly elections, securing 102 seats. The Left saw a significant decrease in seats, dropping to 35 from 99, while the BJP also made gains by winning three seats. On May 18, Satheesan and 20 of his Cabinet colleagues were sworn in.
