Kerala has initiated a significant partnership involving national and academic institutions to enhance its workforce and skill development ecosystem. A coaching institute, a university from Gujarat, and the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) Kerala have come together to introduce industry-oriented training programs in the state. This collaboration, formalized through a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU), will focus on high-end skill training at the ASAP Community Skill Park in Kalamassery, establishing Kochi as a key hub for such training aligned with global workforce demands.
The MoU exchange ceremony, attended by the Governor of Kerala, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, highlights the state’s commitment to advancing skill development for the future. Notable personalities like Usha Titus, Chief Managing Director of ASAP Kerala, former Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi, and Mohanan Kunnummal, Vice-Chancellor of the Kerala University of Health Sciences, were present at the event, emphasizing the national and cross-sectoral significance of this initiative.
This partnership aims to bridge the gap between traditional academic teachings and practical industry needs. While traditional education systems emphasize theoretical knowledge, the evolving job market values practical skills, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities. By concentrating on Semiconductor Technologies, Biomedical Services, and Renewable Energy, the training programs under this MoU will combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning to ensure participants are well-prepared for the job market and global competition.
Officials involved in this collaboration emphasize a shift towards capability-based development over degree-centric education. Kerala’s focus on aligning skill training with emerging technologies and industry demands is geared towards fostering innovation, improving employability, and establishing itself as a national center for advanced skill development in the future.
