Kerala Congress (M) chairman Jose K. Mani dismissed rumors about the party considering a return to the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). He affirmed the party’s commitment to the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF). Mani questioned the timing and motives behind the speculations, emphasizing that the party remains aligned with the Left.
Political circles in Kerala have been abuzz with reports suggesting a possible shift in alliances by Kerala Congress (M), a key ally in the ruling LDF. Mani clarified that discussions gained momentum during his absence abroad, where he was visiting a close associate of his father who was critically ill. Despite his absence, the party’s MLAs actively participated in Left’s protests against the Centre.
Mani reiterated the party’s loyalty to the Left, highlighting their consistent involvement in LDF meetings. He emphasized unity within the party despite internal differences, contrasting it with the alleged decline in strength of the UDF. Mani expressed contentment with the party’s position within the Left front, recalling past tensions with the UDF.
Addressing concerns of external influence, Mani stated that the Church does not interfere in politics. He underscored the enduring significance of Kerala Congress (M) in the state’s political landscape, hinting at the party’s influence in power dynamics. The upcoming steering committee meeting is expected to delve into the contentious issue of potential alliance shifts.
