A Kerala court has placed Maradu Anish, a well-known gang leader with multiple criminal cases in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, in judicial custody. Anish was unexpectedly apprehended during a police raid at a spa in Thrissur, targeting a woman involved in a honey-trap case. Thrissur City police, acting on specific intelligence, raided the spa where they found Anish with a young woman, resulting in his immediate arrest.
Officials revealed that Anish had been evading law enforcement for a significant period and his arrest was not part of the initial operation plan. Anish faces charges in various criminal cases, including robbery, contract attacks, kidnapping, extortion, sand smuggling, and other organized crimes in both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Non-bailable warrants had been issued against him in Tamil Nadu, prompting steps for his transfer after legal formalities.
Following his arrest, Anish was remanded to judicial custody by the court. Plans for his transfer to Tamil Nadu Police custody will be carried out in compliance with the law. Investigators are looking into whether Anish had resumed criminal activities after being underground post his jail release. Anish’s relatives expressed concerns for his safety, citing potential threats to his life, especially during any inter-state transfer.
Police assured that necessary security measures would be implemented as needed. Authorities are also investigating the identity and involvement of the woman found with Anish at the spa, checking for any ties to criminal networks. Her statement is set to be recorded as part of the ongoing inquiry.
