Kerala’s Home Minister, Ramesh Chennithala, initiated ‘Operation Toofan — The Narco Hunt’ to tackle the state’s rising drug issue. This crackdown aims to dismantle drug networks that target students in schools and colleges. Chennithala emphasized a zero-tolerance stance towards narcotics and criminal syndicates, labeling the drug mafia as a serious threat to Kerala.
The Home Minister highlighted the need for a sustained effort to eradicate the drug network completely. He expressed concern over drug gangs specifically targeting young students and educational institutions. The campaign will also crack down on the sale of tobacco products near schools and colleges.
Chennithala urged the public to assist the police by reporting any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods. Additionally, he instructed the State Police Chief to collaborate with authorities in neighboring states to disrupt inter-state drug supply chains into Kerala.
In a significant move, Chennithala announced a revamp of 484 police stations in Kerala to create a more citizen-friendly policing environment. He stressed the importance of a humane approach in policing and directed the removal of abandoned vehicles from police station compounds. This marks the beginning of a comprehensive reform in Kerala’s law enforcement and anti-drug strategies under Chennithala’s leadership.
