Kerala’s public education system advanced with the launch of a robotics training program for all Class 10 students by the Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE). This initiative will benefit approximately 4.5 lakh students in government and aided schools across the state, making it one of the largest robotics training programs at the school level in the country.
The program, led by KITE, aims to introduce students to robotics concepts included in the revised Class 10 Information Technology textbook. Workshops will be conducted in all schools by January 15 to equip students with practical skills that will aid them in the upcoming SSLC examinations.
Training sessions, overseen by Little KITES, India’s largest student-led IT network, will focus on two structured modules. The first module will provide students with an understanding of robotics and its applications in daily life and industries. Students will also get hands-on experience with robotic components like Arduino UNO boards and breadboards.
The second module will involve practical learning using block-based PictoBlox software, where students will learn basic coding to perform tasks like blinking LEDs and operating buzzers. The training will conclude with a project where students will assemble an automatic sanitiser dispenser, fostering a sense of accomplishment and real-world application.
To ensure effective participation, KITE has provided one robotic kit for every four to five students. Schools without Little KITES units will receive support from nearby schools to organize the training. KITE CEO K. Anvar Sadath emphasized that this initiative underscores the state’s commitment to making advanced technology accessible to all students, potentially opening doors to future careers in emerging tech fields.
