Kerala’s Home Minister is working on eradicating drug issues in the state, but the police force faces backlash as a man, who recently had heart surgery, claims he was brutally attacked while in custody for a case now believed to be based on a false complaint. This incident has sparked concerns about police behavior and the handling of cases involving minors. The man alleges that despite informing the officers about his surgery, he was subjected to violence, including being stomped on, hair pulled, and physically assaulted during his detention.
The man was detained in connection with a complaint filed by a 13-year-old girl, but he asserts that he faced severe custodial violence. He reported that the police mistreated him by stomping on his legs, pulling his hair, twisting his ears, and physically assaulting him throughout his detention. The man was taken into custody on July 3 and released on Saturday evening, during which time several minors were also held at the police station.
The complaint, received through the Child Helpline, alleged sexual assault on the 13-year-old girl, leading to the detention of six individuals for questioning. However, subsequent statements by the girl contradicted her original version, leading investigators to reassess the case. The police now believe that the girl’s accusations were false and stemmed from emotional distress following a breakup with a classmate, indicating that the allegations were fabricated out of anger post-relationship termination.
